The Original Richmond Business and Tourism Association enter Yorkshire In Bloom to raise the profile of the town and its businesses as a beautiful place to live and visit. We have received much local publicity and last year we were filmed by Electric Ray TV working on our projects alongside Chris Bavin, the presenter of the BBC2 television series Britain In Bloom.
The resulting half-hour programme, broadcast earlier this year, gave fantastic publicity to Richmond and working on Yorkshire In Bloom really brought our community together. This year we are upping our game and have entered the category of Town. If we achieve gold, who knows, but Richmond might go through to the national Britain in Bloom competition!
To see the route the judges will take on Monday 1st July, when they will be judging the town, please download the leaflet here.
The following businesses, schools and communities have also entered Yorkshire In Bloom and will be judged on Monday 1st July and Wednesday 3rd July: Blenkirons Funeral Services; Just the Job; King Street Kitchen and Gift; McLuckie Projects (5 Market Place); Millgate House; Millgate Residents; Mocha Chocolate Shop; Neeps and Tatties; Richmond Methodist Primary School; Richmondshire Museum; Stable Cottage BnB; York House; Yorkshire Country Holidays (Mr. Yorke’s Walled Garden)
This year we are planning a display of ‘waste’ sculptures for the Friary Gardens as part of our entry. The sculptures will highlight the amount of litter that we generate and the town’s awareness of environmental responsibilities.
The displays will be sited at the top of the beautiful Friary Gardens in shady areas to the right and left of the Friary Tower.
We are appealing for individuals and groups to create sculptures on the theme of ‘Nature’. The materials used should be waterproof and can be made out of such things as plastic bottles, bubblewrap, clingfilm, crisp packets, plastic punnets, packaging, sweet wrappers etc.
The Original Richmond Business and Tourism Association and Richmond Pride teams are regularly out around town weeding and picking litter. Keep an eye on Facebook for dates and times. You can also help by keeping the pavements in front of your homes and businesses free of weeds, picking up litter and putting out hanging baskets, tubs and window boxes. Plant bee friendly, put up bat and bird boxes and create insect hotels to help the environment.
Everyone is invited to join our community gardening and tidying campaign to make Richmond an even better place to live and visit. To register your interest in helping please email us at info@originalrichmond.co.uk and let us know what you would like to assist with. You can also call Marcia on 01748 825525.
