The shortlist for Richmond’s new Business Excellence Awards has been announced.
The Business Awards celebrate the variety and quality of businesses in Richmond and the surrounding area, along with the people who run and work in them.
The Original Richmond Business and Tourism Association (ORBTA), which now has the strength of 100 members, has joined with The Company of Mercers, Grocers and Haberdashers of Richmond (Yorkshire) to establish these annual awards. Richmondshire District Council has also lent financial support to getting the awards off the ground.

The judges will decide from the category winners the ‘best of the best’ and present the annual David Doorbar Award for Excellence to the winning business.
Marcia McLuckie, Chair of the Original Richmond and Business and Tourism Association is pleased at the standard and number of entries for the first of these annual awards, “We were concerned that not many businesses would enter as it takes time for word to spread, but we are all really pleased at the number and quality of the entries. Shortlisting has been really difficult and I don’t think the final judging will be any easier!”
Marcia continued, “This is a real testament to the quality of the businesses in and around Richmond. There are a lot of very hard-working people running businesses in our area who really show their passion for what they do and display great business acumen, planning and customer service”.
The awards will be presented at a ceremony to be held at The Kings Head Hotel in Richmond on Wednesday 25th March with drinks and canapes reception followed by the presentations in the ballroom. The evening is to be compered by well-known local radio broadcaster, James Wilson.
