A new video focussing on Richmond’s independent businesses and attractions was launched on Monday evening at Richmond Town Council’s ‘Rising of the Council’.
This is one of the Council’s initiatives to promote Richmond’s shops, businesses and attractions to local people and visitors, which has been enabled by a £10,000 grant from the Government’s Welcome Back Fund, supported by the European Regional Development Fund and Richmondshire District Council
The video has been produced by local company, Trimble Productions and showcases a broad representation of independent retailers, manufacturers, cafes, attractions and restaurants in the town.
Managing Director of Trimble Productions, Tony Trimble said, "As a company that is based in Richmond, it's important to us to support the local community as much as possible. We enjoyed developing the concept for the video and making the video in collaboration with the Town Council and the Business and Tourism Association to increase awareness and footfall for the businesses in Richmond".
Independents predominate in Richmond, with over 100 retailers, cafes, restaurants and pubs offering a unique blend of welcoming, personal attention in a historic market town setting. Locally sourced produce, hand-made goods and individual products make shopping in Richmond a little out of the ordinary.
Councillor Philip Wicks, who led the initiative said, “Richmond Town Council supported the use of the Welcome Back Fund to create a promotional video of Richmond that encourages people back into the town to support our many local, independent businesses”. He added “It makes me smile every time I watch it!”
The idea for the video was originally discussed at a meeting of the Original Richmond and Business Tourism Association (ORBTA). Chair, Marcia McLuckie expressed enthusiasm for the project, “I am extremely pleased that Richmond Town Council has produced this video. It highlights the interest and personal service Richmond has to offer. Toby and his team at Trimble Productions have really captured the flavour of our local independents”.
Local businesses are being invited to add a link to their websites to promote the video, which may be viewed here on YouTube.
The video is one element of the Welcome Back Fund for Richmond Town Council projects, which has received £10,000 of funding from the England European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) as part of the European Structural and Investment Funds Growth Programme 2014-2020. The Department for Communities and Local Government is the Managing Authority for ERDF. Established by the European Union ERDF funds help local areas stimulate their economic development by investing in projects which will support innovation, businesses, create jobs and local community regenerations.
